The Arena
Well I was playing CT today, and thought, why not make a topic for The Arena? So, that's what I did!
The Arena, if you don't know, is a place where you don't actually fight, but rather you get a monster, train it, and have it fight in arena battles. Some people find it to be really fun, and some don't. I personally enjoy The Arena, but it doesn't replace the old regular gameplay of Chrono Trigger.
You can enter The Arena in the title screen or by going in a portal from the End of Time. If you go in from the title screen, make sure you save because it doesn't save when you go out the portal. When you first enter, the Arena Master will explain everything I am going to explain now. The monster you start with is your choice of a Smidge. Smidges are things you don't see in normal combat. The Yellow one is the Light based Smidge, Blue is Water, Red is Fire, and Purple is Shadow. The monster's effects of elements will be explained later.
There is a shop where a Nu will sell you things for the Arena battles. Here are the Item's effects in Arena Battles.
Slops: Your monster can use it to heal itself. 100G
FlameClaw: Allows your monster to use a fire based tech if they know it. 200G
SeaFang: Same as FlameClaw but for water. 200G
DuskEye: Shadow tech item. 200G
LuxWing: Light tech item. 200G
Hawk Talon: Increases Strength for a few turns. 400G
Shield Cloak: Reduces physical damage by 1/3 for a few turns. 400G
Feral Wrath: Boosts critical hit damage to 4x. 500G
Now you may be thinking, "How does my monster get stronger and learn Techs?" Well, you can send your monster off for training my asking the arena master. Training will be the best way to get stronger. If you send it off to train, you get a few options of where to send it to. Also while I type this my monster is training so I can't be 100% accurate with you. If these aren't accurate you can tell me in this topic.
Prehistory: Training for Speed
Antiquity: Training for Techs
Midevil: Training for Strength
Present: Training for Max HP
Future: Training for Stamina and Accuracy
Next, you get a choice of what item to go training with.
Slops: Boosts Max HP (combine with present for big HP boost)
FlameClaw: Teaches Fire tech (Go to antiquity with this to get a tech easier)
SeaFang: Water tech teacher
DuskEye: Shadow tech teacher
LuxWing: Light tech teacher
Hawk Talon: Boosts offensive capabilities
Shield Cloak: Boosts defensive capabilities
Feral Wrath: Boosts the odds of a class change occurring
Then your monster goes to train. You can't do anything else in the Arena until it goes back, so that's when you go to play the actual adventure!
While your monster is training, I will explain class changes. If you equip the feral wrath for training and get lucky enough, when your monster comes back it will be an entirely new monster! Class changes normally make your monster a lot stronger and allow you to go to higher tier battles. Now, hot about we explain actual fights?
When you want to fight, go to the Pit Boss. You can only enter a fight when your monster is not training. You get to choose a tier, and the higher tier will cost more Gold. You can also do a Wireless battle with a friend, but not Wi-fi, sadly.
When the fight begins, the monsters attack bars will go up, and when it's full they will instantly attack. If you equip an Item, The monster will sometimes use it. However, the odds of the monster using it are based off of it's Trust. Higher Trust can be gotten from winning battles. Also, a monster's health can go up to 9999 (OVER 9000!) health instead of 999 like in the regular game. If you want a stronger monster, send it off to train with the Feral Wrath. It will help.
I guess that covers the Arena. Now I guess I will show you my Monster. Be amazed. Also you can post your monster here too. Hey, my monster just got back from training!
Monster: Medusa ------ No Element
Wins: 37/37 -------------- Max HP: 9111 (OVER 9000!)
Strength ** --------------- Accuracy 59
Speed ** ------------------ Magic **
Evasion ** ---------------- Stamina **
Magic Defense 69 ----- Trust 67
Medusa Thunder (Light)
Medusa Flame (Fire)
Medusa Shadow (Shadow)
I bet you guys can't beat this guy!
Notes:
You can release your monster and buy a new one, I've never done it so it's your problem if you wanna find out
Monsters can't have Equipment.
You get a reward for winning a fight. If you get into tier 5, you can get really good items such as Platinum Helms really early on!
These notes were written while my monster was killing a Freelancer without items! Hey, I got a Rainbow Helm!
EDIT: Here are the kinds of monsters you can have (That I know of)
Smidge --- Royal Guard --- Freelancer --- Cave Ape --- Medusa
If you find more monsters PM me of them.
